GENERAL
The program coordinator will help you start the onboarding process (lots of forms, immunization records, your headshot for your badge, CV, etc). Some of it is done through an online system called Clinician Nexus. You will need to physically go to Sky Ridge and to PSL before you start to get your badge during normal-ish business hours. These are the only two places where you'll actually need a badge for door access.
See the Table for contact information. While there are some consistencies, it is up to you to coordinate with all of the surgeons (or rather, their staff; Cote is an exception). There is flexibility in choosing cases you're interested in seeing or prioritizing surgeons you are interested in working with. They all do in-clinic procedures as well.
SURGEONS
Jason Martin
Does a variety of cases at Sky Ridge Medical. His office is the regional site for Bodytite/Facetite/Accutite (radiofrequency technology) training and he does a lot of these procedures in his Cherry Creek office (that he shares with Dr. Aycock!).
He has a non-cosmo practice in Vail as well, so is in Denver Wednesday through Friday. Wednesday is a clinic day and Thursdays/Fridays are clinic or OR at Sky Ridge (usually Medical, but double check with Amy that cases are not at Sky Ridge Surgical).
Email Amy– she will let you know his schedule for the month (clinic and OR) so you can plan ahead.
Chris Cote
He is an ENT trained in facial plastics. Focuses is thus on H&N with high volume rhinoplasties and airway procedures, primarily at Sky Ridge Surgical on Tuesdays (but make sure the case is there and not Sky Ridge Medical). Unfortunately he does a lot of cases at Harvard Park and they are not allowing residents (as of October COVID time). As a result, his schedule is the most variable–coordinate with him directly.
Nick Slenkovich
Owns the Colorado Plastic Surgery Center where his clinic and OR cases are done. Lots of breast and body cases, but also vaginal rejuvenation/labiaplasty. Breast aug cases are done awake. Very engaged in social media.
Has cases Mondays and Thursdays. He also operates other days, but has a surg assist. Call Sue, the surgery coordinator. She will tell you the first week's cases for Slenkovich and Shah and then when you're there, you can go over the schedule as far in advance as you'd like.
Manish Shah
Formerly the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Denver Health. His clinic is in Cherry Creek, but operates out of the CO PSC on Fridays. He is known for rhinoplasties (particularly revisions), but also does face/neck and body (not so much breast). Very involved in social media and usually Snapchats before and after the case.
Sue will let you know about cases at the CO PSC, but for his clinic procedure schedule, call his office manager Rashelle (general clinic number 720-575-1603).
Linda Huang
She has been practicing in Denver since 1988. Does a variety of cases. Her breast augs are typically transaxillary. She was one of the first to perform explants for BII and has done ~10,000 breast implant removals and en bloc capsulectomies.
She operates out of PSL and the nearby Midtown Surgical Center. Her clinic is nearby as well. She also operates at Rose, where she cannot have residents. Her PA Bobbi controls the schedule and will email you before the rotation starts.
A GUIDE TO THE HOSPITALS/SURGERY CENTERS:
All sites have scrubs available in the locker rooms. Other than the CO PSC where they have their own custom scrubs (wear the black ones for Slenkovich cases and navy ones for Shah cases), they all have blue scrubs a la CHC.
Other than the CO PSC, all hospitals are HealthOne sites and use Meditech as their EMR. HOWEVER in pre-op, the paper charts usually had a clinic H&P or progress note with the necessary information.
Sky Ridge Medical Center (the hospital)
PARKING: In the garage near the Spine Center. Use the crosswalk to go up the stairs to the unmarked employee entrance (not through the Spine Center or ED) You are now on the ground floor.
TO THE OR/locker rooms: Follow signs toward ED (lots of turns). Take Stair 5 near “Education and Marketing” up one floor to Floor 1. The OR entry is right there. Badge in and you can see the OR board screens on the left and front desk on the right. Someone can show you to the locker room through the lounge to the left after the board. There’s a keypad on the door but it’s always unlocked.
FOOD: On the ground floor, go past Stair 5 (turn left coming out of it) and take the next hallway on the right. First door on left is Physician Pantry. Badge in.
Sky Ridge Surgical Center (an ambulatory surgical center on the same campus as the hospital, aka 1st floor of the Conifer Building)
PARKING: Open lot in front.
TO THE OR/locker rooms: The building has multiple suites in addition to the ASC. Your badge is supposed to work for the ASC but mine didn’t. There’s a phone number on the door to the ASC to call and someone will let you in. This person can show you to the locker room.
FOOD: You can walk to the Physician Pantry in the main building for food. Otherwise, juice and crackers in PACU.
Colorado Plastic Surgery Center (Google Map “Slenkovich”)
PARKING: Open lot.
TO THE OR/locker rooms: Go in and to the door on the right. That’s the pre/post area. Sue is usually sitting right at the desk. She can show you around but through the door to the left is the OR and to the left is the bathroom/“locker room”.
FOOD: A lot of times someone would buy lunch (order from somewhere nearby) but I always brought snacks in my bag just in case.
Presbyterian St. Luke's (Kaiser)
PARKING: Park in the garage anywhere.
TO THE OR/locker rooms: Follow signs to cafeteria toward the left. Just before the cafeteria is the stairwell on the right that is closest to the ORs (up one floor). The physicians lounge with food and snacks is near the OR desk (desk is to the left, lounge is to the right). Pre op is past the OR desk and ORs are past the lounge. There is access to the men’s locker room through the lounge. To get to the women’s locker room, go back out, go past the elevators on the left and on the left there is a door at a tiny angled alcove to the staff lounge. Women’s locker room through there.
FOOD: There are snacks and coffee in the physicians lounge by the OR. There is usually some food (salad, sandwiches) in the fridge. More food is in the Physicians cafeteria just off the dining area (after the registers) inside the main cafeteria on the first floor. Badge in.
Midtown Surgical Center (a block away from PSL)
PARKING: Open lot.
TO THE OR/locker rooms: Ask the screening person to show you to the lounge. Locker rooms are through there and the ORs are accessible from the locker rooms.
FOOD: A boxed lunch is always provided in the lounge.
